You might want to have a look at the free modules from Will Strohl and Oliver Hine.

Ultra Media Gallery is another choice.

Make sure that you are really connecting to the database.  This looks very similar to other errors I've seen where the database connection is a problem.

Does any part of the site display?

RE: I need a judgment
Mark is a busy man, but he does respond.  In fact, he asked me to send him a copy of my skin and -- within a day -- he returned a solution, updated DDR menu (I'm not sure that the modifications he made for me have made it to the release version) and absolutely gave me what I needed.  FOR FREE!

As what I was working on (and am still working on) is a commercial project, we plan to send a donation his way.

Mark is a real gem!  We should all send him donations if we use his FREE products!

I believe that the other to which you refer is Brandon Haynes' menu.  I believe that he hasn't updated it for over a year, but I also notice that he has a new job  le, so that's quite understandable.  I hope to meet Brandon early next month at the Chicago Day of DotNetNuke.

And, as you mentioned in another post, there is the Telerik RAD Menu.   I suspect that it is a quite viable choice, too.
